Making Better Films … What Are The 20 Things I Need To Know?
Making
a film is more than picking up a camera and capturing dialogue between
characters. Every element must communicate the story the filmmaker intends to
tell. Flaws in the lighting, sound, directing or acting often detract from the
story and undermine a film’s potential for critical and/or commercial
success. In your haste to get your
project completed and seen, you may overlook one (or several) of these steps
and bring all of your hard work to a screeching halt. This session will outline key areas that filmmakers should
focus on to ensure the highest quality end product and success outcome with
their project. Industry veterans
will share insights to help better prepare filmmakers in the ever-challenging
industry and consumer marketplace.

I’ve Made My Film...Now What?
After many months of writing, re-writing, shooting and editing, your project is officially "in-the-can". Now, you want people to see it. It’s time to develop your post-production strategy to secure distribution and marketing, and commence leveraging your relationships. Before outreach begins, you have to decide if the next step you take is to reach out to a sales agent, a festival programmer or acquisition executive. It’s a critical decision and should be planned carefully based on the film you’ve made, the project’s budget, and the anticipated commercial success. Seasoned industry players will address how filmmakers best approach these critical decisions at this important juncture in their film’s life cycle.

For The Global Market…Who In The World Wants To See My Film?
Today, there are more ways to distribute a film, as well as more domestic and international buyers than ever before. Not to mention, movies are increasingly generating incremental ancillary revenue from non-theatrical distribution outlets, as well as via the Internet and emerging technology markets, such as mobile and wireless devices. With such a fragmented global audience, it is critical to understand with whom your story resonates and the platforms where they are most likely to spend their leisure time watching your project. This session will dissect the myths and opportunities existing for urban film across global territories, coupled with a dialogue about which distribution platforms are most viable and valuable for your project.
